we might want to pick the location first, if in McMinnville I would wait till early June.

I agree. We should choose a location first, then the dates. If it's in McMinville, then a June time would work well, and the June 12-15 slot works best for me.

    Default 2008 Fly-In

Father's Day is June 15th, so that's not a good weekend for the Fly-In, I would not be able to attend.

    I like June 5th-8th.

    Default Fly-in location

OR is pretty far to travel if you live East of the Rockies. How 'bout somewhere mid-USA?

Default fly in dates for 08

I lived in the Willamette Valley for 36 years and flying over the Cascades in the spring is very problematic due to low ceilings. I would recommend that the flyin be done as far into the summer as possible to allow VFR flying over the mountains for those from the east side. Sometimes the weather doesn't clear up until after the forth of July. I would recommend late summer, September. Of course there is the "gorge" but then you pass close to PDX and it's control zone and heavy traffic. McMinnville is a great location with the museum and the Spruce Goose. Just my two bits. Spud

    Default location

I see a request from posters about the distance to the west coast, asking for a more central location. I live part time in McCall, ID and we have had flyins here sanctioned by the FAA with schools on Mtn flying, safety, etc. The airport is at 5000 ft elevation and about 90 miles due north of Boise. (3 hrs east of McMinnville). There are several motels and restaurants within very easy walking distance of the airport and even a mogas station within several hundred yards. The town is a resort area with a beautiful lake and mountains around, golf courses, etc. There are several hundred lakes in the mountains within a 25 miles circle. If you are mountain proficiant then there are lots of back country strips to visit. This could be a location for 09 if McMinnville is set for 08. The only downside is later in the summer there are forest fires and smoke. The weather clears up for VFR flying about the 4th of July, would recommend mid July. Spud.

    Default McCall

    Spud,

I think it sounds great...08 is booked but 09 could be fun. Lets discuss it at the 08 gathering...

And anyone else chime in with your thoughts!
